Choreographic Journal: Third Lesson

Hey,                                                                                               17th September 2014

Third lesson we started with a warm up and it seem to be getting better each week, I think it is because we are going over it each week and it’s slowly going in to my head. We went on to an ice breaker which was fun because we had to fall in to some one that we were paired up with and hope they caught us. We had to go in to groups of four and the three who you were putting your trust in to would catch you. I felt when I was in the middle I would clamp up which I not think was good for this exercise because it made you feel like you couldn’t trusted them and  you would be scared to be relaxed because you didn’t want them to not catch you if you unclamp and relaxed.

The following active we did, was the dance routine which we have been adding to each week but this week, I keep not being able to remember what we had just learn for the next bit of the dance routine and it seem the tutor added more movements this week from last week which was hard to remember because I was trying to remember the first new section of the dance and she added another new section after that so it became difficult. I may next week ask her to slowed when she’s teaching the next section of the dance or break it in to smaller section like she could teach us a small section then ask us to go over it then teach us other bit then go over both new section so I can slowly remember what she had taught us.

This week we started looking at our stimuli for our dances, we sat in a circle and went round everyone to see what they are going to do, then we were split in to our pairs, which we will be with till the end of this assignment, so I went with molly who I know won’t let me do something that doesn’t work for my stimuli. we had to do three dance moves for each stimuli, molly and I choose to do the movement together for each stimuli so we could feel how the movement felt when you were performing them, on Molly stimuli I step back to watch the routine and give feedback on what she could improve on and what would looked better or what looked good. We also did this on my routine which works well because she told me that I could use different level and flow more in to my next movement, we then got in to fours to show our routines to another group but we got in to a six because there was an odd number. We showed each other what we had come up with and all of the ideas looked really good and they gave good feedback on everyone. We then had to sit and talk about how we came up with the movement, I got my movements from how people stand and read in a library, I was also thinking about using a prop which would be a book that I have read that is my favourite and it would be “Perry Jackson and the Lighting Thief” because it was the first book and I read that found my love of reading.  And I’m going to try and see if I can find some music to go with my dance but I don’t need to find something because if I wanted to I could do it without music because I’m doing a library I thought it could be quiet or silence but I think I am go for silence but I want to see if there is any music I could use.

My strengths from this lesson would be that I came up with more than 3 ideas for my stimuli but my weakness is that I couldn’t remember what I did so next time I would film what I did so I can look over it and remember my ideas.

And remember keep dancing

Jenny
